Take that second plywood disc. Cut a narrow slice off one edge. This gap lets wires enter the lamp body without fighting through solid wood. Screw the porcelain socket firmly into the center of this disc. Do not skimp on tightness.
Apply a bead of construction adhesive to the cut edge of the disc. Skip the sliced-off part. That stays open. Press the disc into the crimped end of one elbow pipe section. Socket side out. Make sure it sits straight. The bulb will stick out into the second elbow piece later.

You need to vent heat. Incandescent bulbs get hot. Trapped heat is a fire risk.
Across the top of the stovepipe, directly above where the bulb sits, drill three holes. Use a 3/8-inch bit. Three holes are enough to dissipate the heat.
Wiring the switch and base
Thread a 12-foot piece of lightweight lamp cord through the hole you drilled in the bottom straight pipe section. Just above the plywood base.
Leave about 8 to 9 feet of cord outside the pipe. Tie a loose knot inside the hole. This anchors the cord so it doesn’t pull out when you tug on the outside. The remaining 3 to 4 feet inside the lamp will be used for wiring.
Bring the wire up the base piece of stovepipe. Route it to the drilled switch hole.
Separate the two insulated wires of the cord for a few inches at the switch hole. Cut one of the wires. Not both.
Use a wire stripper to remove about 1/2 inch of insulation from the two cut ends of that single wire. Connect those stripped ends to the two screw terminals on the lamp switch.
Insert the switch into the hole in the stovepipe. Secure it with the provided lock ring.
Completing the assembly
Set the other straight pipe piece onto the base. Uncrimped end down. Push firmly to join them.
Pull the loose end of the wire up through this pipe.
Separate the two insulated wires at the loose end. About 6 inches.
Set the assembled curved “candy cane” onto the straight base. Pull the separated cord ends up past the plywood disc. Through the cut-out area you made earlier.
Strip about 1/2 inch of insulation from each wire end. Connect them to the screw terminals of the porcelain socket.
Push the curved part onto the straight part. Firmly. The light opening and the switch should be on the same side.
Attach a quick-clamp plug to the free end of the lamp cord. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Painting the exterior finish
Cover your work surface. Cover the lamp cord. Cover the switch. Mask the bulb opening. Tape the vent holes on the inside of the top pipe.
Spray a light coat of metal primer. Let it dry completely.
Apply two or three coats of high-gloss spray enamel. Follow the can’s instructions. You want a smooth finish.
Let the paint dry completely.
Remove all tape and paper. Screw in a 40-, 75-, or 100-watt bulb.
